I'm just curious what everyones take is on Australia's Medicare program. I've heard some good things about it and nothing really negative. I understand that the way it is handled doesn't really agree with Austrian thought but nonetheless, from what I hear, it seems to be a pretty good government program, especially when compared to other public medical programs in other countries.

I recently read in an article somewhere that the whole scheme will soon have to be abandoned and transformed into a American-style pseudo-private enterprise. Will look for source.

Edit: Here: http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-national/medicare-may-collapse-in-five-years-nsw-20090603-buqh.html

There's limited time to reform the nation's health system amid fears Medicare could collapse within five years, the NSW government says.

NSW Health director-general Deborah Picone has given a dire prognosis for the current system, saying Australia is heading towards US-style user pays.

Prof Picone says cost escalations mean universal health care could collapse within five years...

Austrians do it a priori
