I know the Heritage ranking and it is pretty useful, for some aspects one can also check the TI's Corruption Perception rating, or the 'Doing Business' rating. All have their imperfections, but that can't be avoided.

Any more ideas?

How do you compare the economic and other freedoms between different countries?

Let's say you would have to move, start a business or have a new job in a country you are not familiar with. How would you evaluate the economic environment in it and other freedoms? Which measures would you use, and what sources would you consult? If you could choose between two or more countries, how would you compare them?
