Sage, I am in almost an identical position. Worse, I graduated in May with an "economics degree", and looking to obtain a position in the realm of microeconomics, took a job as an economic incentive consultant. I obviously had not yet fully developed my healthy distrust and disdain for government and thought some good could be done. I now work everyday in a job I not only dislike, but abhor on moral grounds. However, I find myself in a position where I cannot simply leave because I have huge student loans and am disillusioned. I wish to find something exactly like you described. My passion is in this area of economics that seems to be the least helpful in obtaining employment. Furthermore, I do not wish to take another position requesting economic degrees as most will involve some form of macroeconomics or brand of econ I do not subscribe to.

If you get an answer on this one let me know...

I guess you could always try to get a position as an editor at some sort of newspaper, hopefully a paid position, while posting at your own blog. Though how you would earn enough money to live off just that I don't know.

I'd also like to see suggestions since I may end up in a situation like yours.

I learned about Ron Paul last summer and I've been following his campaign very closely - I live in Canada but I have a dual USA/CAN citizenship so I can vote in the States. Over the last 6 months I've come to realize that I am a libertarian; that is, I've been bitten by the liberty bug. I started off with Milton Friedman and have progressed to Rothbard and Mises. Now, my question is: where do I go from here?

I went to the University of Manitoba last semester but I was so disgusted with the ignorant economics and rampant socialism that I'm taking this semester off. I know Walter Block advises getting a PhD in economics and going on to teach, but I wonder if that is the best course of action. Personally, I feel university is a bit of a joke and that I don't need to go to an institution to learn. I can do a better job teaching myself.

Right now I'm leaning towards a self-employment Steve Pavlina-style job based on libertarianism.

Does anyone here have any ideas or suggestions on how to promote liberty as a career?
