“Our plan has four pillars: requiring biometric Social Security cards to ensure that illegal workers cannot get jobs; fulfilling and strengthening our commitments on border security and interior enforcement; creating a process for admitting temporary workers; and implementing a tough but fair path to legalization for those already here,” wrote Graham and Schumer. “We would require all U.S. citizens and legal immigrants who want jobs to obtain a high-tech, fraud-proof Social Security card.”

The national ID cards would include a "unique biometric identifier," according to Graham and Schumer. Some of the likely candidates include finger prints, retinal scans, or even the layout of a person’s veins in the top of their hand. Employers who refuse to "swipe the card" would face "stiff fines" and "prison sentences," the Senators noted. “Our blueprint also creates a rational system for admitting lower-skilled workers,” they added.

President Obama promptly signaled his approval and pledged to “act at the earliest possible opportunity.” The White House released a statement noting that the President would do everything in his power to push the issue, and Obama called the Schumer-Graham proposal “a promising, bipartisan framework which can and should be the basis for moving forward."

This is insane.

Apparently the new immigration bill, introduced by senators Graham and Schumer, will force the entire population to get some sort of ID card with "biometric tracking technology." Employers cannot legally employ you if you don't carry this ID card, and employers must carry ID card scanners. I got this information form Ron Paul's C4L in an email; can anyone verify this?

If it's true, then this bill, along with the financial regulation bill, seem to be the last step towards full blown fascism.

It won't pass, even if it does, don't underestimate a small business' savvy in employing under the table labor.

Why not just control the border? It would be far more effective, you wouldn't need a large bureaucracy to monitor the cards, it would be less expensive, ect.

But yes, if this goes through, and the financial regulation bill (don't forget about cap and trade) then the government doesn't really have much else to regulate.

On the assumption that this is what the bill looks like what does everybody think that the national reaction will be? Will this be like the teaparty protests except even larger to the point where Washington has to give? Or will the liberals be incapacitated and silent because it's "their guy doing it" and the conservatives silent because of their nationalistic fever?

Thoughts upon what will happen if this is indeed the general layout of the bill?

The mindless liberals will probably support it, and the neo-cons will most definitely support it. I mean, the Neo Cons passed the "Protect America" and "Patriot" acts, and actually support Obama's "undercover patient" plan, where federal agents pretend to be patients, so that they can spy on private doctors. I've heard Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly use the "if you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear" defense for all three pieces of fascist legislation. In all honesty, our greatest allies would be the far left think tanks, and the tea-party movement (if not completely marginalized by then). How ironic.

Just letter sent to the Washington Post by those two buffoons. There plan: create a police state; require a national identification system. Everything else they propose is rubbish like retaining highly educated foreigners who come to the US for an education (PhD holders in math, science would get green cards); "tough but fair" citizenship process, which requires proficiency in English; and the imposition of fines, payment of back taxes, and community service on those illegal immigrants already within the US, as well as having them "sent to the back of the line for legal immigration processing".

That would make too much sense. If you can't create a new bureaucracy for a given problem and give the state more powers-what is the point?

I can't verify it, but I'm under the impression that your analysis of the situation is correct. I hear that it will also require retina scans for certain employees, but I don't think that part is true. Wouldn't surprise me though.
