Oh snap, I just learned that as early as 2003 Penn Jillette called himself an anarcho-capitalist. Who knew!

Q: How do you define your politics and where did they come from?

A: I guess libertarian is a little too much government for me. I tend to be a little more anarcho-capitalist. But I will take libertarianism to get that in place, then work to get that out of place. I see libertarianism as a stepping stone.

I believe that people are really, really, really good, and that the number of people who do actual bad things is so insignificantly small, that we don't need to treat everybody as criminals just to stop them.

Yet people are so scared - a lot by the media and a lot of incorrect knowledge. They think they are some sort of one good person surrounded by all these bad people, and they're actually one good person surrounded by a lot of good people.

If I remember correctly callers were asking how various things would be handled without the State. I'm not sure if he says outright somewhere in it that he's an anarchist, but it's quite implied.

Furthermore, if it's worth anything, I've talked to him personally at Cato University and he implies his anarchism in Crisis and Leviathan.

EDIT: IIRC, at Cato U. he said that he made the full transition to anarchism only recently.

Here is a three-hour discussion with Higgs on BookTV/CSPAN-2 from a year ago.

If I remember correctly callers were asking how various things would be handled without the State. I'm not sure if he says outright somewhere in it that he's an anarchist, but it's quite implied.

Edit: In response to a caller, from about 0:45:00 - 0:47:00, he states it as clearly as one can without actually using the word.

Edit II: I got sucked into watching this. Around 1:19:55 he states how his view of the role of government verges on its evaporation completely.

See his latest post on Coordination Problem. He doesn't specifically say he's an anarchist, but if you read this closely you'll see that he certainly suggests it. But, Boettke is very careful with his language, and it's probably to remain a serious contributor to a variety of academic journals outside of the Austrian circle.

Ok, that seems a confirmation; particularly when he calls it his 'new favorite site'.

In Higgs introduction (or forward) of Aganist Levithan he writes out his progression. Though, if i remember correctly he doesn't fully say that he is an An-cap, instead he says how he started as a small-gov but the more he read the more he realized.
