I don't think a lack of undergrad econ would hurt your chances of getting into Suffolk's PhD program as long as you have decent GPA + GRE scores, and show an interest in free market economics. I would be surprised if their MA economics program was tough to get in to.

Wow, I just looked at Dr. Powell's C.V. and it's impressive. One of his pusblished works has garnered my interest. :)

I wonder what it would take to get an MA in economics there, seeing as I don't have much undergraduate econ under my belt...

Ben Powell is the main guy I've been in contact with there.. A handful might've been an exaggeration but here's a snippet from an email he sent me:

"So the program is not 100% Austrian after the first year. No Ph.D.

program has that.  But there are plenty of opportunities to work on
Austrian research.  I have about a half dozen already in the program
who are working on Austrian research projects.  Two just got awarded
summer fellowships to spend the summer at the Mises Institute.
Another one the Austrian Student Scholars Conference Paper competition
this year.  So there is lots of Austrian going on.
 That's going to increase as well.  We just got approved to hire
another faculty member next year who does research and teaching in
"Austrian Economics and Public Choice."  They will almost certainly
end up teaching one of your second year field courses.
  Though not "Austrian" David Tuerck, the dept chair is a free market
guy and a fan of Hayek's work.  He teaches one of your first year
macro courses.  Jonathan Haughton is also free market and holds a
joint appointment with the Beacon Hill Institute (like David and I do)
our in house free market think tank.  None of the faculty are hostile
to free markets.  No Marxists here!"

Anyone go to or have any experience with Suffolk University in Boston? I will be starting my economics PhD program at Suffolk this fall. I chose Suffolk because they have a handful of professors who are Austrian School economists, or at least sympathetic to capitalism. They are also connected with some free market think tanks. I'd appreciate if people could share insight or advice, or just want to discuss about Suffolk or econ PhDs in general...
