I visited Minnesota for the first time this last year and it was beautiful. MN does have some affordable land in quantity. I also noticed that almost the whole tier of northern border states were strong for RP and thus I infer have some independent thinking and support for Anarcho-Capitalism. Part of that is perhaps not that, but was protest voting against the other options.

I saw the comments on agorism. While that has not been my emphasis I would think that the list of things we were looking for in our next abode would go well with that. I would like to hear more from those who my live in MT and the other states I listed in terms of how those places stack up against my criteria in the first post. Thanks!

Re: Relocating--But Where?

I, too, was going to recommend New Hampshire. If I ever leave my hometown, that's where I'm headed.

I wouldn't expect a libertarian neighborhood there, but I understand that it's closer than most, and you have a better chance of having libertarian neighbors there than anywhere else.

If they underperformed for RP, I don't consider that wholly indicitive - I mostly don't vote, either.

While the major metro areas of Minnesota are very 'liberal', and the state government is, land can be had quite reasonably in the northern part of the state, home schooling is highly regarded, your nearby 'major metropolitan center' would be Duluth (which is often charming), and there are some very independent-minded folk there. They're strongly pro-union, but other than that, it may be worth a visit.

After all, they did elect Jesse Ventura. Just don't talk about unions - it's amost a religion in these parts.

On the downside, the state gov't is remarkably liberal and intrusive, and city-level corruption is so commonplace that nobody even notices any more. As a liberal state, taxes are pretty high - but if you're a "gentleman' farmer (growing for own consumption and perhaps a bit extra to sell), taxes are skewed in your favor.

Me, I'm a city kid - but if I leave here, it'll be for New Hampshire, or offshore, if a community like Atlantis actually gets off of the ground.

Danno, wavin' the State Flag - will wonders never cease?

Re: Relocating--But Where?

classiclib:

If anything I'm happy people in New Hampshire didn't vote for Ron Paul because I'm leaning towards Agorism these days. But you're right, the FSP is a step in the right direction.

NH looks like a great place to graduate Agorism through from phase 0 to phase 2 or even 3 in a relatively quick time. When I am graduated from college, I plan on relocating their for US citizenship along with moving either in the San Marino area or more towards the South in Italia for my Italian citizenship.

Re: Relocating--But Where?

If anything I'm happy people in New Hampshire didn't vote for Ron Paul because I'm leaning towards Agorism these days. But you're right, the FSP is a step in the right direction.

Re: Relocating--But Where?

I thought NH earlier too, but NH underperformed for RP. I understand that the libertarian spirit there is being diluted by a combination of new folk from MASS and also the general dilution of spirit that happens over the stretch of time. Of course FSP is a counteracting to that, but again, in the primaries we were all disappointed by the outcome there.

Re: Relocating--But Where?

I was going to say NH but I'm guessing there's not a lot of inexpensive land. If you've heard of the Free State Project you know NH is a great place for liberty activists. Maybe someone more knowledgable could explain why NH would or would not be a good choice.

Relocating--But Where?

Dear friends:

LR today wrote on the blog today of "ultra-red, pro-war, pro-police state West Virginia." I know that WV has some negative history, but that is pretty strong. WV is one among many states I have been considering relocating to. Some key things we are looking for are:

o low cost tens of acres (privacy and can grow food)

o minimally invasive home schooling and other laws

o away from major population centers

o at least a few folk who appreciate anarcho-capitolism

o resistance to Real ID etc.

Please advise. Suggestions on where one might go to achieve this? Among my list of possibilities are MO, WV, OK, KS, NB, SD, TN, KY.
