I have lived my whole life in the Maryland suburbs of Washington DC.

I love Maryland, and think its a great place to live. Just stay away from PG county. There are lots of happenin' places to live both in DC and Baltimore, although its going to be pricier in DC. Also in DC, you are going to be surrounded by statist.

In Baltimore, if your straight of of college Federal Hill and Canton are great neighborhoods, I have lots of friends that live there, and visit them a lot. Can't comment on the day to day, but the nightlife sure is fun, but gets old after a while, and I only visit once a month! Its referred to as Smalltimore for a reason.

All that said, I am trying to move to New Hampshire this summer as part of the Free State Project. I feel like its the only place where I could actually DO something as part of the liberty movement and have any kind of impact on the world.

PG County is not that bad. It gets stereotyped - perhaps because it is mostly black. But much of it is just as safe as any other suburbs. Plus housing costs are less than in most other areas of the DC Metro. I lived in Upper Marlboro for a short while and had mostly positive memories. The county happens to be the wealthiest majority black county in the country.

If what they about the housing bubble in canada is true you won't be hurting moving anywhere for a while.

The bust hasnt happened. The government is borrowin a couple a trillion a year, the fed is printing a trillion a year, theyre pushing the bust away into the future. Once the government or fed get into trouble(cant print more or borrow more) the trouble will really hit the US. And the crisis now will be nothing compared to those problem

Most of the Western world is facing a similar future though.

Eastern europe certainly isnt more interesting than the US. Anticapitalist mentality is strong here still, employers are thought of as exploiters, nationalist mentality is very strong(govt as maintainer of the small nationalities of east european countries), very pro-conscription public opinion.

According to my friends in Slovakia, Poland, Estonia and the Ukraine, more interesting but not as interesting as places where people can and do own personal firearms.

Clayton, if you want freedom, you need to take real risks with your security. The reality is, nearly all of the western world is much more nanny state than the US, and you probably don't realize it. Try Asia or Africa or South America (no, I am not kidding) where things are less controlled, but also more "interesting".

You could be right, but what would be some manifestations of this nanny state-ism?

But the boom is the bust phase... the "worst" stuff is happening right now. As soon as we bust we can begin readjusting capital structures. It will work out if the powers that be can keep their hands off...

All you guys are totally wrong. Havent you been listening to Schiff? The US economy is totally unsound. Once the big government borrowing and spending ends and fed is forced to raise interest rates, which will send another shockwave through the financial/real estate areas, the standard of living will drastically fall, which makes it a BAD BAD place to immigrate to. The 70% consumption will decline dramatically, the trade deficit will fanish(and as a result less imported goods) and a lot of govt/bailed out industries will collapse.

Pretty much anywhere in the West is bad, but the reputation of the United States as a free country among free countries is as silly as the reputation of the West as free.

Now, the only freedom we have in this hellhole that other people around the world generally don't have is the right to own a gun. That's it. Other than that, this is one of the most control-freak-filled, nanny-state fascist nations on earth... so-called "land of the free and home of the brave".

Thats one more than us, granted we don't call ourselves the "land of the free..." oh actually we can now.
