I am fine with this. Weapons don't bother me. It's when they're in the hands of criminals like the police or marines that I get nervous.

LOL the funny thing is that those same liberals are ok with tanks only when the military is drving them (well, because they are only one who can afford it, probably, haha), but not a John from Maple St.

Social democrats, the ones that would use that label, do think of themselves as socialist. Take a look at the member parties of Socialist International. In Canada their representative is the New Democratic Party, whose platform is a mainstream marketized communist manifesto. The common livestock such as the visitor portrayed in the video is a different creature.

Well I stopped trying to explain to people that a libertarinan society could work, and rather point the flaws

in other peoples reasoning out. It just seem that people are a lot more open to it that way, and actually

often acknowledge that the goverment shouldn't be involved in X. On the other end, when you talk about

that the goverment shouldn't be involved in anything, they just think of a hobbesian world in which everyone

is trying to kill eachother in order to become rich.

Also, calling every ideology that you don't like socialist is the least helpful thing you can do. You have to

understand that non-libertarians have a different worldview than you, and also a different definition for words.

Just imagine you are a social-democrat who believes in both freedom and equality. You think that a society

like that would work as long as the goverment would intervene in the flaws of the market. You certainly don't

see yourself as a socialist. Now, when you are discussing a libertarian who keeps calling you a socialist that

after a few minutes you would stop listening and ignore the sob because he don't know what he's talking about.

On the other hand, it makes discussing a lot, lot harder.

This type of thing is the opposite of what type of libertarianism was in my area, or at least the ones I was exposed to, especially in High School. The ones I saw in my area said they were libertarians, and when asked why the only answer was b/c it would legalize marijuana, but everything else in the gov't was fine, and this turned me away from the libertarian party- b/c thats all it seemed like.

I did change my understanding of what it was like, but I approached libertarianism through economics and the "engineer's syndrome" of trying to optimize everything, including the economy- which I found the most effecient way was not to touch it.

My first encounter with libertarianism was Harry Browne, then Murray Rothbard. To be honest, I was more interested in the social science angle than the politics.
