Pearl Harbor? Everyone made a big deal about Cuba Gooding, Jr. playing a cook of color on one of the ships who actually did end up manning an AA gun after the sailor got killed. It was a small part for an Oscar winner to play, but everyone was made surely aware that yes, a black man who worked as a cook did actually start shooting a mounted gun during the attack.

But as No2statism said, it's Touchstone, so that should tell you all you need to know.

i think spielberg got where he is because he is incredibly creative.

the way he shoots scenes is amazing. i was watching close encounters of the third kind the other night....it seemed much more lower budget, but all his classic style shooting was in it. real and gritty.

his camera work is brilliant. and any new movie maker could learn a ton just from watching and studying spielberg films.

here's a for instance....in war of the worlds....tom cruise is running.....spielberg is moving the camera with him....but just to give you a sense of the running, spielberg throws in a guy riding a bike in the background and a guy on a skaeteboard....so you can sense the speed.....super small detail, but never overlooked by speilberg.

How good it will be can be gauged by the reception Gods and Generals got.

While historians lauded it for being a surprisingly accurate rendition of Stonewall Jackson's career during the Civil War, it caught a ton of flak from critics for, get this, painting the Confederate general in a too favorable light, as being brave, beloved by his men, respected by his foes and, worst of all, a very devoted Christian.

Steven Spielberg got where he is right now because he's an incredibly intelligent man. He knows he cannot stray too far from the mainstream script which says there are are taboo topics, like Lincoln voting as a senator to keep slavery legal south of the Mason-Dixon Line or his interest in Spiritualism (back then it was perfectly acceptable, right now it's "not cool" and hence would detract from the aura of myth surrounding Honest Abe). Of course you can read both of these facts in any history book but remember the general public doesn't read history books. At most they read Wikipedia and propaganda tomes.

@ grant: it was pretty good. It got the idea right for the most part, even if there were some historical accuracies in it. However, the whole movie wasn't a lie like this new disney version of lincoln is.

Nah. It's Hollywood. This is the place where they showed Darth Vader as a little kid, made billions with a movie about a love story between two blue monkeys, and where Michael Bay swims in the gold that he's made off of fake explosions and stereotypes of the Japanese.

So I doubt it would be accurate.

but, spielberg is a good director, in that he knows how to compose amazing shots. he's the best director, for visual effect, in my opinion.

No. Wikipedia has said that it portrays him in a good light and it's made by the same studio that did pearl harbor. Basically, it's going to be the "disney version" of Lincoln.

Spielberg seems kind of like a dick to me, and this makes me think he's totally dishonest also, as I'm sure he knows better.

The conspirator came out of Hollywood, but that was an exception to the rule.
