&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Perhaps we should more carefully study toddlers and look for these &amp;quot;ah ha&amp;quot; moments, if possible without unethically restricting the child&amp;#39;s lives.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;

It occured when I was about 3. I realized, some afternoon or other, it might have been while watching my dad buy Camels from a vending machine, that I had no previous memories of events. I knew who people were, where I lived, but it was that very moment that I became self-aware. It was a first moment of introspection.
