I am an ex-leftist converted to Libertarianism by Ron Pauls 2008 presidential campaign. I consider myself to be a radical libertarian in contrast to the moderate "beltway" libertarians like the Cato Institute. However, I also reject Paleo-Libertarianism because of its instance on adherence to traditional morality. I feel that organized religion is just another form of tyranny that closes the mind and compels the masses to follow the morals dictated to them by a higher power (god instead of government). So, I reject religion and the value system it and the government have created. I believe that it is unnatural for humans to repress their sexual desires, recreational use of "soft" drugs frees the mind, and the avant-garde art especially surrealism is inherently libertarian because of its rejection of the established order and support for the "liberation" of the mind. That being said, I believe that if a free stateless society is going to work we must tolerate or at least accept other opinions and lifestyles. So I don't advocate that everyone reject religion and embrace "counter-cultural" values. Rather I think as a society we have to agree to disagree. Most cultural conservatives probably regard me as some kind of a deviant or libertine. However, while I personally abhor racism and discrimination, I nevertheless accept an individuals right to believe whatever he chooses and would oppose any attempt (the civil rights act) to impose my opinion on him. I reject the Randian concept that society must agree on a set of cultural values in order for liberty to work and therefore hope that issues such as these will not divide the movement.
