Johannes Ernharth, AIFA, is an 19-year veteran investment management consultant, and is currently a Sr. Portfolio Manager with BNY Mellon Wealth Management where he is responsible for portfolios totaling over $230 million. Previously he was the Lead Strategist at Ernharth Group where he crafted a thoughtful approach to investing by leveraging
strategic thinking, historical perspective and a realistic global
outlook, rather than following the herd mentality that dictates conventional
investing practice. At BNY Mellon, Johannes is responsible for many relationships requiring alternative approaches and views of investing and the economy.
Johannes is a devotee of the Austrian school of Economics. He was previously the Editor of Vigilant Investor, a blog started in early 2005 warning readers about the credit bubble crisis that was then still building, one of the first to do so at a time when the mainstream was oblivious to the looming problems. Since early 2002 he was also editor / author of the Ernharth Group Wealth Report, a print publication that was reserved for Ernharth Group clients, which similarly warned of the dangers of vast credit expansion, bubbles and busts, started at a time when the mainstream was heralding the genius of Alan Greenspan's neo-Keynesian bailout in the wake of the tech crash of 2000.
A graduate of Middlebury College, VT, Johannes spent time as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Uganda, East Africa, an experience that contributed to his libertarian conversion. Johannes is a former Chair of the Libertarian Party of Pittsburgh, and remains a champion of free market and other libertarian ideals. He is married with three children, and resides in a small town 10-minutes outside of the city of Pittsburgh.
