  • Re: Linux

the number one thing linux needs right now is standardization. the other day i had to make install a utlity from source because there were no repositories. no normal user should or will do this. moreover i had to google and find out that i needed to install gettext, because it was giving an error. you have half a dozen audio frameworks, 20+ window managers

  • Re: Linux

i use linux at work and used to use it at home until i got a mac mini as a present. i actually like it that its so customizable and supports lot of filesystems. but im not gonna fool myself. its too fragmented and unreliable.

  • Re: Examples of spontaneous order

"1. The state created x. 2. Therefore, only the state could have created x." i find marx's explanation crude but somewhat satisfactory. social conditions are not the result of ideology or random but are caused by the underlying conditions. states always are where civilization is- this is not a crazy fluke. for things to change something

  • Re: Examples of spontaneous order

i dont see why socialists see that planning is the way to go (even if it worked smoothly). the idea of centrally planning something very complex that already works seems idiotic. i think once wealth equality and social ownership of means of prod. are inplemented the only method would be planning.

  • Re: problem of poverty

therefore could one say that increased material wellbeing is almost useless as long as people "feel" poor?

  • Re: What Kind of Movies Do Austrians Watch?

bal (turkish for honey) was pretty good. i think solaris is one of the most tastful sci-fi movies around, odysey 2001 was good too. i am a sucker for wwii movies with germans in them. stalingrad, untergang, rome open city, longest day.
