Wasn't that scary or invasive, really (for me). Might be different for other people or for women. Just wanted to post this. I'm not passing judgment on the ethics of it, just saying that it was not that bad (again, for me).
Oh aye? You filthy dog.
Consumariat: Oh aye? You filthy dog.
But on a serious note, it may be that they've made the pat downs less invasive because a lot of people were getting pissed off about it.
I still say all men should fly in genuine Scottish kilt fashion - this way, both the screener and the passenger can enjoy the pat-down experience to the full extent of the law.

It varies depending on where you are, and even the bureaucrat performing it. I've never gone through a scanner. The rubdowns are quite different from airport to airport. I guarantee some of the ones I've had, you probably would have had an issue with.
And besides...don't forget, this is just the warmup.

Coming Soon to an Airport Near You: Prison-style strip searches?
Yeah it definetly does depend on who you get for the patdown event. I usually wear something Ron Paul to the airport and ironically enough have noticed a lot of Paul supporters are TSA agents. Those ones are usually less invasive. The first time I got a TSA agent that really enjoyed their job I was completely shocked and it nearly took my breath away.
Just make sure to never forget your ID. One of my freinds got pulled over by a cop for speeding on his way to the airport. The officer didn't give him a ticket, but forgot to give him back his ID. He tried to explain this to the TSA agent but ended up being treated as a suspected terrorist and asked over 200 questions. Most of them personal. "How many sisters do you have? Have they all graduated? Where does your mother live? Where has she lived most her life?" The ordeal took about two hours.
On the same trip he was stopped and detained again in the Seattle airport for not having his ID. Only this time it wasn't for two hours, it was for three days.

They ask questions like that just to crack your psyche. They don't care about the factual content of the answers.
I opted for the pat down last year when I flew out of the US. When I said I was not going through the pornoscanner thing the two lady agents manning the line yelled out "Male assist!" Up until then it didn't seem like anyone had been frisked and it took a while for them to find a poor lackey to do the frisking. The guy said we could go to a private room, but I said I'd rather stay out here where everyone could see it. Funny thing is he seemed vastly more embarrassed and humiliated than me. Sadly, nobody else disobeyed if they were ordered into the pornoscanner.
And besides...don't forget, this is just the warmup. This is the pith of it. It's the camels nose under the tent. That's the nature of government, which derives from the nature of humans: to test limits and expand control.

Spoken in truth.

As long as you aren't dictatorial about it.
