because the city can’t assess their salt, fat and fiber content

We, your supreme overlords who aren't efficient enough to stop and examine all the food you give to homeless shelters, do hereby stop you from giving food with homeless shelters.

I swear, New York is this close to, "You are fined one credit for a violation of the verbal morality statute. Be well."

The problem is that donated food is seen as coming from voluntary non-governmental efforts, which runs counter to the narrative that the State is the only one who will provide charity.

And since those altruistic folks will no longer have to deal with the expense of buying food to bring to the shelters, surely they can afford higher taxes that will "help the needy". What's a better use of $100 - buying meals for a few dozen homeless people or paying a bureaucrat to fill out paperwork in triplicate for a few hours?

How can a city ban food donations to the homeless? From where does the city derive its power? Cities get their charter from the state government, right? Does the State of New York have the right to prohibit individuals from giving food to other individuals? No,even if it is codified. Stupid Americans. They think government can do whatever it wants because it's government. Frog in cold water. FASCIST POLICE STATE, here we come!
