I've had that (broken link) happen before when I tried to link to a youtube but put a space between "view:" and the url. Also, the url can't be autolinked in the text editor or else it won't show the embedded youtube player.
I think I'm starting to figure it out!
Jargon:Maybe it would be a better idea to get this rant thread OFF of the LvMI website? I think it's a great idea, but perhaps there will be embarassing/damaging words that come out onto the page, and it's not really fair to the good people at LvMI to have the forum on their own site get crudded up with terrible PR and momentary slips of the tongue. I know I would like it if it were off here because I could make a new user profile and be able to vent but still have the same like minded people to angrily press keys to. Perhaps, Fephisto's or Autolykos' forum?

Autolykos, I would post more in your forum but not enough people post there. It's a shame :P
I don't think a successful migration to another forum will take place until I set up the LibertyHQ forums :P
From today's newspaper:
The ECB announces the new 5€ bill "Now the note will be counterfeiter proof"
Doesn't even deserve a joke here.
Wheylous:Autolykos, I would post more in your forum but not enough people post there. It's a shame :P
It's kind-of a catch-22 - more people joining leads to more people posting leads to more people joining... :P So if you posted more yourself, that could motivate more people to join and start posting.
Yeah, I don't know. It's a pretty heavy free-rider problem... :P
But I guess I should do my part.
Oh, I'm not trying to say that you're obligated or anything. It's entirely up to you. I actually need to catch up on some threads there myself.
I think many libertarians have felt this:

There is a small button with a house and landscape on it.
Today's Newspaper: The ECB announces the new 5€ bill "Now the note will be counterfeiter proof"
That doesn't need a joke, it's dead pan comedy at its best. One of the great counterfeiters saying their notes are counterfeiter proof.

Th forum administrator over there is an absentee landlord. He didn't even follow through on his promise to be part of Fephisto's study group and spends all of his time on this forum trolling for new members (despite not posting on his own forum in a week). He's starting to get on my nerves.
EDIT: I've been a bit disgruntled lately, so what I wrote above is much harsher than I intended it to be. For the record, I think Autolykos is doing a good job. I'm just whining.
Not sure if serious... :\
So my history class i bombed the first test with a big ole F and i felt i probably knew more than anyone else in the class. Tests are essays, so i went to a study session for the 2nd test and the teacher assistant said
"Dr. X does not want you to say or write anything other than EXACTLY what he said. He wants you can memorize what he said and write word for word his lectures and notes then you will make a 100. He doesn't want you thinking on your own."
So this test i decided to do a big screw it to learning and made flashcards with 'word for word' of what he said.
I made a 100. What total BS our educational system is. Screw intellectual thought JUST COPY AND PASTE THE ANSWERS! FN HOGWASH !!!!!!!!!!!!!
DON'T YOU JUST LOVE IT?
@grant
Three theories:
1) Since the test scoring is based on a points system, then there must be a way to quantify your essay. There, the professor counts word per word whether you wrote exactly what the professor wanted you to write.
2) If you did your own research and included knowledge that the professor does not have, then the professor has no way of knowing whether what you wrote is true or simply BS.
3) Academic hubris.
To paraphrase Marc Faber: We're all doomed, but that doesn't mean that we can't make money in the process. Rabbi Lapin: "Let's make bricks!" Stephan Kinsella: "Say you and I both want to make a German chocolate cake."
Well, one remark on this is that 99.9999% of students are incapable of even the most cursorily organized thought. In some of the ancient schools, this was how instruction was performed until the student had reached proficiency. I can't say I blame the instructor because he's trying to impart something he knows to the students... not engage in a pseudo-academic "discussion" with a bunch of incompetents.
That said, the University system is completely busted and does not really serve the interests of students and hasn't for centuries. Bastiat wrote on this, among other, issues.

Gero: I think many libertarians have felt this:
Not me. In public, I prefer the intelligent company of the voices in my head.
Yesterday my Intro to Ethics professor bragged that he was at a party in Princeton, NJ with...you guessed it! Paul Krugman! Woaaahh. He then proceeded to tell us about how markets naturally revert into recession, how markets are not self-correcting, and that interventionist leftists are the "Kantians" as opposed to the libertarians, who are "Utilitarians" because they defend larger gap between the rich and poor because it increased efficiency and growth. Stick to philosophy, Professor. Actually, maybe read some more philosophy? Aren't you academics supposed to know at least Robert Nozick? What about left-liberals whose policies may admittedly interfere with your rights, but are for "the greater good of society"? Whatever. When the higher education bubble bursts, I'm sure the Philosophy department is gonna be slashed in half anyways.
@ Groucho
Didn't Carlin once say that libertarianism was bullshit?
Most of what passes for libertarianism is bullshit. Go look at most any FreeStateProject video... whiny white people complaining that they can't wander around naked in the streets of New Hampshire... yeah, now that's libertopia.
Every time I hear someone talk about New Hampshire I immediatel think of this:
I would like to rant about Wheylous calling right-wing Libertarians silly, haha. We're not. =P
One of the great counterfeiters saying their notes are counterfeiter proof.
Maybe they meant the notes are a proof of ECB being counterfeiters...

Michael I'm speaking to the Pakistanis
Jahi everyone dies eventually though..
well if they persist in killing americans/chanting death to america then i guess so. Drones are the only language they seem to understand.
Michael Ah, yes, every single Pakistani chanting death to America
Jahi plus if america just leaves the Israeli–Palestinian conflict will continue, conflicts with fatah will continue, terrorist will still terrorize
Michael I think you're in the wrong conversation, Jahi
Michael I know that all those Middle Eastern names are tough to keep track of when we can easily just bomb all of them and forget about them, but Palestine is not Pakistan
Jahi but michael your making it sound like american is the cause for every single terrorist formation and we are the cause of every single dealth in the middle east
Michael Nowhere am I saying that
Michael where did I say that
Jahi we aren't bombing every middle eastern nation though and you were implying it
Michael I'm poking fun at you for confusing Pakistan with Palestine
Jahi I believe your main statement is that america should withdraw all drones/military presence from other nations because we kill civilians and promote terrorism right? and no I didn't confuse the two I was saying if we leave terrorism will continue due to the several conflicts between different middle eastern nations

Jahi I mean your original statement from another post
Michael How about that video above?
Jahi my point was that the conflict was going to continue without american interference so I agree with the video lol
Jahi plus don't they owe us money for the aid we provided for them? yet they havnt paid us fully?
in a country with as much civil unrest as pakistan, conflicts will occur whether or not drones are present. Many bombings are between the two sects of muslims anyway.
Michael They owe us money so we should beat their kneecaps in. Got it.
Michael (Money which we gave without any expectation of it being paid back)
Jahi thats the point im trying to make even if america leaves civlians will still be bombed and taken hostaged. The middle eastern nations will still fight for hegemony and nuclear power
Michael Conflicts certainly will always occur. Since that apparently gives us cover to do anything, might as well just enslave them and rape them all while we're at it, no?
Jahi and what Im saying is if someone owes you millions of dollars you don't just withdraw all presence and ask kindly overseeas

Michael Jahi, what money do they owe us?
Jahi what??? we arent just doing " everything"
drone attacks are laughable in the fact of what would happen if the Taliban (which Pakistan harbors)gets in control/ i mean, this is controvercial but state and religion are pretty much intertwined in the middle east and if it is the will of allah to behead non believers, then people will do it. don't be gullible.
do you advise americans go into pakistan one by one and politely ask which people are Taliban so more american lives are at stake?
Jahi we assited israel financially with fighting the hamas terrorist and provided finacial aid in many other areas

Michael Jahi, we're not droning Israel. Your argument is that you can attack Pakistani people because their government supposedly owes us money.

Michael Shane, the Taliban is that strong because of US interference
Jahi noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo what I am trying to say is before I believed you said we should withdraw ALL military presence( that includes drones, army officals, recons etc) from all foreign nations
Jahi your reason for that is because we kill innocent civlians and promote terrorism right?
Michael, this kind of thing has been going on for thousands of years long before the US existed. Islam is peaceful in practice but it has a violent nature. Not saying all religions don't have dirt on them but others seem to have modernized better, agreed?
Jahi I assume you believe that by withdrawing all military presence the deaths of civlians will go down and terrorism will decrease right?
if America leaves then it won't get any better...because the core problem is the non democratic ways of the government. Free Speech is a myth over there, Internet gets shut down at WILL, the people are treated like prisoners and not people. we need to find a way to change that
Michael Jahi, yes

Michael Shane, have you read about the concept of blowback? The reason those terrorist groups are able to recruit so successfully is because the US is messing with the nations. It's pretty damn difficult to convince people to blow themselves up for you. The US interference increases the incentives for people to blow themselves up and makes recruitment easier for terrorists, as the article above notes. Yes, there will be conflict there, but the US makes it worse. If the US leaves, there will still be violence, but it will be less.

i understand that when a group feels oppressed they will do whatever they can to throw off the oppressor but i thought suicide bombings were derived from a twisted sense of honor almost as to how the crusaders were told their sins would be forgiven if they basically suicided themselves. It seems like the US leaving would be a huge gamble that could either pay off or eventually bite us....

Jahi ok my question for you is 1. How will you employ the 100,000 plus person employed by the department of defense. 2. What will you do with the machines that cost millions of dollars to create 3. What will happen to the underdeveloped countries who are oppressed by other nations and killed by terrorist 4. What will happen to countries we are trying to stablize and promote democracy in 5. How will we protect american investments overseas( the government and private sector will not trust let alone settle with hiring mercanaries) 6. How will America maintain hegemony? 7. How we will prevent dangerous groups from acquiring nuclear weapons 8. What will we do when our allies need our military assistance 9. What will we do if america experiences another 9/11( there are people in other countries who want to exterminate us, so do u want to risk being exterminated? 10. Why do you completly ignore all the posiive thigs our military presence does?

Michael 1) After WW2 we had 10 million troops come home and they found jobs. The point is to not keep massive amounts of jobs that aren't necessary. If we had the government employ people to draw cave painting and then erase them right afterward, we can realize that this is an unproductive job. Shouldn't we cut it? Yes. And it will create a temporary unemployment, but it will be resolved.

Bert,
Yes. Classy, important, and intelligent content that should be documented by high class scholars.
Anyway. I returned to a political forum which I used to go to but left because seeing in red all the time is bad for my health. Yesterday I had a discussion that literally took the cake for most ridiculous discussions that I've ever had, this one beats the argument I once had over "higher taxes mean freer markets" so this has to be achievement unlocked right here.
I had an argument with a guy yesterday who literally took it as a matter of course that the minimum wage raised both employment and living standards. When I used a basic argument which is usually introduced between chapter five and seven of an economics textbook, the supply and demand section, he claimed that I "didn't understand supply and demand" and that the matter was so clearly settled that because I was even talking about it I was "spamming the thread".
His justification for his premise was that most companies are monopsonies, and when I said that they weren't he said that "job market frictions" meant that they were, and furthermore that price controls only work the way that I'm talking about in perfect competition so I should "spread my perfect competition lies" elsewhere...
