I was wondering if anyone has written anything on the site about how socialist societies, or socialized markets (like health care in Canada, Britain, ect.) can be artificially propped up by not being isolated from free societies.
If not, does anyone have any comments on that?
As a new member of this institute, I do not know if anyone written anything on the topic.
For my own opinion, I would have to say that government-controlled social programs ARE isolated from the market--which is what I think you mean by "free societies", but correct me if I am wrong. I do not think that social programs are isolated from the free market; instead, I would say that they are insulated from them. Regardless of what happens, the government keeps that sector of the economy or industry, insulated against any of the effects--good or ill--that they would experience in a free and open market.
Beyond that, I do not know. I am not exactly new to the ideas of the Austrian School; however, I go to a university where the vast majority of the teachers in the Econ department are from the School of Business. Prior to this, my last semester at university, I've learned three things about economics: (1) maximize profits; (2) minimize costs; and, (3) ceteris paribus. It wasn't until this semester that I have encountered a teacher who espoused heterodox economic theories, and my interests were allowed to grow as opposed to being stifled because of the need to regurgitate mathematical formulae and popular economic rhetoric, and all in the name of 'earning' the highest grade possible.
Having a little more freedom with my current professor, I'm able to pursue this field of study and go in a direction more to my liking and interests...

You mean as in "having their customers forcefully shoed in those systems by GVT" (Social Security), or " being on G payroll" (all others) ?
