Yes Roderick Long is a geek. Geeks are cool though. I also remember him making a comment about how the Klingons were able to make spaceships and the like if they are a constantly warring people's. That would indicate that there are members of their society who were able to work in voluntary exchange in order to meet the capital accumulation necessary for space travel. The philosophical politics of Star Trek, brought to you by Roderick Long.

You say that as if it wasn't a given that Dr. R. Long is an extreme geek.

The difference between libertarianism and socialism is that libertarians will tolerate the existence of a socialist community, but socialists can't tolerate a libertarian community.

He is probably one of the smartest men at LvMi. David Gordon takes the cake though.

Gordon is awesome. What specifically makes you say that though?

Haha that's awesome. Roderick Long just seems like a huge geek (as is anyone posting and/or viewing this forum). He's probably my favorite modern philosopher too.

That he is the smartest man at the LvMi? I would say because he did a complete seminar on the history of political philosophy covering Aristotle to Rothbard without notes. Pure off the cuff lecturing. My history teacher during my undergrad years did that so I highly respect anyone who can do whole lectures let alone seminars in such a fashion.

My experience is that the more of his work I read, the more brilliant he gets.

For me it was his lecture on the American debates between Hamilton and Seabury
