I was hoping this was part of the new and exciting stuff for this year.
Welcome to the Mises Academy, a soon-to-be-open service of the Ludwig von Mises Institute. This online academy offers complete tutorials from professors working with the Mises Institute on a variety of projects. Each class has distinctive properties. They range from one week to one year in duration. Class media includes forums, readings, video and audio, a complete curriculum, study questions, online quizzes in a variety of formats and more. Students will receive feedback and grading, and have access to blogs and class-specific forums, providing plenty of opportunities to interact with the professor and get to know fellow students. Papers can be uploaded, corrected and commented upon. Students have full, permanent access to their records. We hope to build this into a full-blown academy for not only economics but also for law, history, and philosophy, adding courses on an ongoing basis. A complete support staff is here to help you.

Hmm. Really interesting. First, we have online courses. And soon enough, a whole Austrian econ department! :)
good old internet, breaking down barriers.
Just so there is no confusion amongst us, I already called dibs on the Department Head of History. I have been assured by shadowy sources that it will be ready for me when I get my PhD.

So will there be some kind of certification that the Mises Academy offers?

krazy kaju: So will there be some kind of certification that the Mises Academy offers?
I am wondering that too. Since I am in business for myself, I don't have to worry about having degrees. This has to be a concern for others, even though the price right now seems cheaper than most in-state community college fees.
I am really anxious to see how it all plays out. Kinsella's IP course disappeared this morning but there is this from the blog:
Now that we've released this Academy for the first time, we should add that we have at least 50 courses in preparation, in all areas of the social sciences, to be unveiled as we move forward through the first months and the first course. The future is very broad, ambitious, and bright.
I just saw this on facebook, but if you read the real Mises blog, you will see that it hasn't been officially announced.
Thats an awesome price. I have been dreaming about something like this
Are there any dates yet? The Understanding the Business Cycle I can't seem to find any dates...

April 12 to April 23 and then May 3 to June 18.
More details soon...

Will the lectures remain free like with Mises University?
I was planning to go on a cruise this summer but Mises Academy looks like a far more exciting alternative. I can't wait until this service is up and running.
Nielsio: Will the lectures remain free like with Mises University?
No, you will have to pay. They'll be like online classes.
Jonathan M. F. Catalán: Nielsio: Will the lectures remain free like with Mises University? No, you will have to pay. They'll be like online classes.
Mises University are also classes that people payed for. The point is that if these guys are going to give lectures it would be a waste if those weren't publicly available. The added value for the payment comes in the form of being able to interact and by taking tests/doing assignments for certification.
We've updated the Mises Academy site with more details and a screenshot of the virtual "classroom"!
I'm too excited for this. I need to get my credit card stuff sorted out soon as mine has just expired. :S

Yep. I'm sure the market will value such a certification.
Whose going to get the Howard Zinn Memorial Professor Emeritus of History, Class, and Gender Studies position?
A message from Professor Murphy.
I'm looking forward to some history, history of political thought, and maybe political philosophy courses. Anybody have info on upcoming courses in those areas? Very well done guys btw.

That is what I am hoping for too and I would be very surprised if they didn't have those.

It's official, you just kicked Blackboard's ass.

Ugh, I hate Blackboard. Whenever I click "Announcements" for my itm. macro class it sends me to my announcements from last semester, when I took principles of macro. That and everything else about it sucks.

The devs for BB could take a hint from sites like the Mises Academy and such for what people *want* in an online educational platform. Hell, even most of my teachers hate using it to do their grades with as it screws with their equations all the time (especially BB 8.0 which more or less makes it impossible to curve a class).
The Mises Academy in Context
by me. :)
I know it is early in the game, and I am all for this, but is there going to be more info about any of the other 50 classes soon?
As of now, the Mises Academy does not offer credits that can be applied to a state-accredited school; what it does offer is real knowledge that can be applied to a state-afflicted world.
Is this a long term goal at all? Again, it doesn't bother me much but it is obviously a concern to others. Is there going to be a track to a non-state-accredited degree? I could come up with a ton of questions on my own, but all I am hearing about is Murphy's course.

That's kind of our focus for now; I hope you'll bear with us.
J. Grayson Lilburne: In response to my post on the Mises Academy, "Le Master" shares the following poignant and lovely reflection: The road to this point has encountered some moments of tremendous exasperation. In late 1968 Walter Heller of the University of Minnesota and Milton Friedman of the University of Chicago held their “great debate” on “Monetary vs. Fiscal Policy” at NYU. It received national front-page coverage. Hundreds of people attended; additional rooms had to be found to accommodate them. Later that same evening, Mises held a seminar across the hall where only fewer than a dozen people showed. That fall evening, the public wasn’t listening to the teachings of Mises. But on a spring evening this year, it’s going to be much different. Won't you join us on that spring evening?

I think courses in logic would be a good idea. Then, if someone racks up a certain number of credits in logic and economics, they could get a "degree" in praxeology. How cool would that be?
Also, I'm loving the new avatar, Lilburne. Join the club. (:

What choice do I have right? A ballpark estimate on when there will be information would be nice though. I was just expecting it sooner.

Austrians don't predict!
To paraphrase Marc Faber: We're all doomed, but that doesn't mean that we can't make money in the process. Rabbi Lapin: "Let's make bricks!" Stephan Kinsella: "Say you and I both want to make a German chocolate cake."
