New(?) forum glitches

I happen to be a big fan of the new layout, but I've noticed a few glitches (that may or may not have existed before):

Using Opera, line breaks in the WYSIWYG editor don't insert a line break in the final post. You have to add them manually using HTML. In addition, the entire "edit bar"(with the Bold, Italic, Underline, Create List, etc. options) isn't there.

Using any browser, long user names are cut off when viewing a user search.

Using Firefox on Vista, sometimes replying to a thread results in a browser crash. This never happened in the old layout, but I also reinstalled the .NET Framework 3.5, so it may be related to that. The post still goes through.

Don't allow leftists to play games with definitions! Some of the libertarian-leaning leftists at this forum will try to redefine "left-wing" back to its original defition (Third Estate, limited government, free-markets, laissez-faire reforms, etc.). Fine! We non-leftists can't stop them from using their own personal definitions; they can use whatever labels they want to describe any concept they want.

However, they have the audacity to then use their personal definition of "left-wing" (remember, the original definition, which is no longer valid) to prove that modern leftists are more libertarian than modern rightists! They will say that libertarianism is "inherently leftist" (again, using the original, no longer valid definition), and use that to insist that we should prefer and side with modern leftists over modern rightists.

Question their motives.

The firefox crashes are getting ridiculous... every time I post a "quick reply" in firefox on vista, the browser crashes.

This is a quick reply.  I have the entire edit bar (bold, italic, underscore, etc. etc. all the way to HTML) visible.  I am using Firefox in Linux.

Hey!  I just noticed that Paste From Word button.

Hmm.....  Funny.  You guys are on Windows and a MicroSoft-centered web application fails........  but it works fine on Linux!  Ha!

ADDED:  I am wrong!!!!   My browser soon crashed.  I will shut up now.

I don't think it's Microsoft-related just because it has a similar button...

Anyways, the edit bar appears in Firefox, but not in Opera. Firefox crashes every time you use "quick reply" on Windows (luckily, the post still goes through). EDIT: Apparently it crashes on Linux too.

Internet Explorer doesn't have any unique issues.

I'll download that, but I still think that the malformed javascript needs to be fixed. Not all firefox users know about (or want to use) beta software.

Did any of the underlying code change during the visual update?

Actually, this is a major upgrade of the underlying software as well.

Btw, you can choose your editor in your profile.  Maybe only the default one causes the crash?

I've already updated Firefox. :(

Well, here is a problem in the quick-reply software on Firefox 3:

Hitting "enter" adds a line break, but it switches focus away from the editor (and the editor temporarily spams its way down the screen).

EDIT: I'll stop trying to look for problems, I feel bad for whomever has to fix them.

I feel like dirt for whining about another problem, but if I owned a forum, I'd want others to do the same!

There is a different "press enter" error in Firefox 3 for Windows when doing a regular reply (as opposed to a quick-reply).

This time, the editor retains focus, but the entire page is scrolled down so that the newline is at the bottum of the browser window.

I am not sure if this is related to the forum or not, but I tried lookin at a thread and when I hit back it brought up an error screen that said "Oops. An unexpected error has occured" It then asked if I wanted to be notified of when it was fixed.  I closed the window and opened it back up 5 minutes later and it was fine but it happened twice today.  I dont know if it was just me who has had this issue or if anyone else has.

With the old forum I could select text and insert a URL into that text by pressing the icon that looks like a chain link. If I do that now a box does pop up and I can past the URL into the window but there is not button to press in this wondow that allows me to insert that URL into the text.

Users could lie about the reason for editing, anyways. I think putting a timestamp on each edit and allowing other users apply their own levels skepticism to each post with a late edit is probably the balance between usability and readability.

There have been delays and part of the reason is that I've stopped getting notifications on posts that the software has snagged as a spam suspect. So I'm just logging in and approving them.

David had written a great spam thing that is disabled in this version, so that is a problem.

We'll get there. I mean, many of the problems that were here a week ago are gone.

Thanks, by the way, for not assuming that just because a post doesn't appear or is sent for moderation that we don't like you or something. This is purely a software issue.
