Not as excited as whoever made that poster, but yes, very much looking forward to it. April is shaping up to be a great month for TV; if Breaking Bad wasn't delayed until July, this would be the most exciting part of the year for television.

And this tickles me just right:

You make us wait MONTHS for US tv shows, and we just give ours to you the very month we get them... do you at least have to watch ads on BBC america?

I must confess the last Doctor Who series didn't get me as excited as the past ones. It's still very, very good by all standards and Matt Smith is a truly great Doctor (like all his predecessors) but it's immediately apparent there were big changes at writers level. There were some incredible episodes that got me hooked (Time of Angels, Vampires of Venice etc) but the changes were not all to my liking. Still it's a gazillion times better than the **** they usually give on TV and will be waiting for it. yes

Kakugo,

I am guessing the biggest difference is the head writer and executive producer positions shifted from russel davies (who was head writer through out the first 4 series) to steven moffat (who wrote two of my favorite tennant episodes: Blink and the Girl in the Fire Place).

I think you're right that Moffat is taking the Doctor in a whole other direction. To me, it seems like the episodes are taking more of an optimisitc (silly?) turn and that the doctor has become more a part of a group of friends and less of a solitary immortal followed around by an assortment of companions. That might be disappointing if you enjoyed the gravitas of the previous 4 series, but i actually consider it a breath of fresh air.

here is one way of summing up the comparison:

Not disappointed, far from it. Just made me raise an eyebrow in a few moments that's all. Perhaps they looked for inspiration from the Second Doctor (played by Patrick Troughton).

PS: who draw that cartoon? wink

i think you're right. i think i've even read somewhere that matt smith's favorite doctor who episode is "tomb of the cybermen", which features the second doctor. i have never watched anything older than tom baker but i just found tomb of the cybermen online and will likely watch it tonight. :P

as for the cartoon, i don't know who originally drew it. i found it on tinysprout's tumblr page:

she produces a lot of her own artwork but reblogs others.
