My wife just ran a little bit of TSP with our load of dishes and it made them cloudier then ever. Not sure if this TSP hype is really cracked up to what it is supposed to be but just a little heads up to some of those who may not have tried it yet. I suppose it may work for some and not for others. I haven't had any issues with using it with my clothes though.

Edit - So the mods on this forum are now in the business of changing thread titles? Interesting...

What was the title you wrote?

And how much TSP did you put in there?

1. TSP WARNING

2. No more then 1/4 cup - Dumped it on the bottom of the dishwasher

It might also depend on what soap you are otherwise using. I tried something called Lemisol that was catastrophic.

You should try an experiment in your sink, and test dishes that way. Then you can know if it is the soap mixture or your dish washer.

Well, I'm not going to blame the soap because we have used the soap before and while some of the dishes made of glass had minor streaks, it wasn't even close to as bad as when we added the TSP. I think I'll stay away from using the stuff in the dishwasher but continue to use it when washing the clothes. I think my clothes have been coming out cleaner, especially around the collar on my dress shirts.

If you read Jeffrey Tuckers article the recomendation for dishes was a tablespoon maybe you just put to much in the dish washer.

You could also have a completely different problem called "etching."  The TSP, Vinegar, Lemisol, (and on and on), are used to get rid of the white film on glass due to mineral buildup from hard water.

There is another problem which leaves white film on glass called etching, and is more likely due to soft water.  What happens is instead of the chemicals in the dishwashing detergent binding to minerals in the water and food, they instead chemically etch the glass leaving permanant scratches, which also looks like a white film.
