Did he really support the end of the nation state?
I haven't read a whole lot of his writings, but from what I've read, it seems like he was very anti-nationalist, which is really the only contrast between his statism and that of Lincoln.
Not exactly. Wilson promoted international cooperation, multilateralism, and democracy. Some argue that the Bush doctrine is extreme Wilsonianism and some argue that Bush Jr. broke away from Wilsonianism with unilateral actions. So, he wasn't "anti-nationalist" as much as he was pro 'internationalist." There is some cross over, but there is enough od a difference to make distinguishments. You can read John Ickenberry for good disscussion on this issue.
