It would seem that using the printing press on currency always leads to trouble ( inflation, assault on savings ect ) , can you ever justify printing money?

No.
Abstract liberty, like other mere abstractions, is not to be found.
- Edmund Burke
Wilmot of Rochester:You're confusing a different issue here. Anybody can already print as many notes from any other bank as he wishes in order to satisfy his or her demand for money. Do you think dollar bills are being used as wallpaper? Well so what!
i defy anyone to have a good grasp of what you are saying...
Where there is no property there is no justice; a proposition as certain as any demonstration in Euclid
Fools! not to see that what they madly desire would be a calamity to them as no hands but their own could bring

February 17 - 1600 - Giordano Bruno is burnt alive by the catholic church. Aquinas : "much more reason is there for heretics, as soon as they are convicted of heresy, to be not only excommunicated but even put to death."
Juan:Anybody can already print as many notes from any other bank as he wishes in order to satisfy his or her demand for money. Do you think dollar bills are being used as wallpaper? Well so what! Do you think you can manage to produce a half-meaningful retort ? Or ?
You don't get it, do you? Your hypothetical situation in a world absent a central bank is no different from the real situation with a central bank. In both situations, people can counterfeit dollars. Why don't they? Well, some do. But most people don't have the desire or ingenuity to do it. If counterfeiting is the real concern here, then we've created a perfect banking structure.
existence is elsewhere

In both situations, people can counterfeit dollars. Why don't they? cause your government will murder them (us) . But most people don't have the desire or ingenuity to do it. LOL. Are you that clueless or just playing dumb ? Next.
When in doubt, ad hominem your way out.
First, yes, because the government would send people after you today. As would a bank absent that government.
why do they ever stop? why dont they own everything?
nirgrahamUK: Wilmot of Rochester:Well, some do why do they ever stop? why dont they own everything?
Empirical observation tells me that they usually do these things in bursts and aren't interested in owning everything - just a small portion that they can keep for themselves.
If you want to get down to it, though. They're stopped by men with bigger guns.
Wilmot of Rochester: As would a bank absent that government.
As would a bank absent that government.
nirgrahamUK: Wilmot of Rochester: As would a bank absent that government. what grounds would a bank have to do so?, or are we assuming renegade banks who are fighting wars with the rest of society, a society composed of liberetarians who dont want men with guns to come after innocents?
The same grounds that a high-quality drug dealer has when someone poses an inferior product as the said high product.
Wilmot of Rochester: So they're giving you money to host your money at their bank out of charity because they're making enough money on interest rates from other loans...? Ok. As far as most people go, I doubt most people care - only the fringes on the internets really pay any attention to this stuff - and furthermore, it's called legalese and yes, every industry uses it.

Uh-oh, a troll.
"If we wish to preserve a free society, it is essential that we recognize that the desirability of a particular object is not sufficient justification for the use of coercion."
why is the one product inferior to the other in this case. your chosen case in which you claim fidicuiry media is as good as sound money?
nirgrahamUK: why is the one product inferior to the other in this case. your chosen case in which you claim fidicuiry media is as good as sound money?
Oh, I'm not saying that notes are as good as gold, I'm saying they can be better. More fluid, easier to produce, cheaper to carry, care for, and verify. Just better. Of course, this is a subjective value and wasn't referring to the world I was talking about.
The world I was talking about was one where the bank issues a product from the bank, and a counterfeiter issues a product from himself that is similar to the banks and is an attempt to piggy-back off of the banks reputation.
