http://www.naturalnews.com/030366_children_smoking.html

"Aldi Rizal was just 11 months old when he smoked his first cigarette, and by the time he turned two years old, the Indonesian baby boy was smoking four packs of cigarettes a day. And there are thousands of other chain-smoking babies and children across the South Asian country just like him that are addicted to smoking, which some attribute to a lack of tobacco regulation in the country."

Is the reason this behavior is so out of control due to lack of government regulation?

No, it's due to child neglect.

Yes: the reason these parents are giving their toddlers cigarettes is because the government hasn't told them not to. Do other motivations for things exist?

I guess the real question is, why are all these children (including toddlers for crying out loud) smoking?

Is it because they are hungry and smoking helps with the hunger pains?

We need to know for certain why they are smoking (and spreadthe word), so we can stop the stupid calling for government regulation in its tracks.

The parents think it's funny/cute to see them smoking. They are doing it for the lulz.

"They are doing it for the lulz."

now lets be serious for a second....there must be a reason.  Does anyone know anything about indonesian culture?  or perhaps the living conditions these children are in?  Or the economic conditions of Indonesia?

It doesn't have anything to do with culture. It's just that they don't have good parents. If kids weren't fed by their parents, they'd be eating brownies and cookies and chips all day, washing it down with soda. I'd like to see statistics on what percentage of families in Indonesia have both parents working due to the cost of living increasing.

I asked someone from Indonesia this very question when the video became popular on youtube.

She said it is because they are very superstitious in the country and believe that it brings good luck or magic or something.  Very strange.  Or maybe it this particular kid.  I can't remember the details at the moment.
