pokho:
People love to criticize my choice of tools, but not a single volunteer has contributed a single line of code in the five years I've been involved with the site. Until someone does, this site will stay in .Net, which is what I do best.
How does someone contribute code to mises.org?
@pokho
Django is a framework. Drupal is a CMS. They're not directly comparable as a CMS. You can somewhat compare them as development frameworks, however, and they are a bit different in that respect.
As far as being able to build something better than the current mises.org (written in .Net), there's no reason to think that you couldn't using Drupal, or any other web development framework/language. I recommend Drupal over Django for mises.org because Drupal:
* is geared towards building online communities
* has a large and very active support and development community itself
* has high security standards
* has a very flexible and easy to use API
* has a large selection of freely available modules to add functionality to your site
I personally prefer Python for development, and like Django a lot. I do think that I'm going to be looking a little more at other Python web frameworks (TurboGears, Pylons, etc), as well, though, and I'm keeping a close eye on some new frameworks being developed in Clojure. But as far as out-of-the-box, Drupal will give you the most. You'll be able to re-create mises.org in Drupal relatively easily, and Drupal will make it easier to add new features to the site than I suspect it is using the current .Net code.
Using Git would be awesome, and Github is a nice site for hosting your repositories.
I just wanted to say that I think you made a wise decision, selecting the .NET platform.
Someday, when I get some spare time, I'll actually help out, too...
I Like the idea of a graph or flow chart representing the shift from praxeology to maybe something like the business cycle etc though it would be hard to simplify and time consuming to create. The one problem with austrian economics is it so far isn't easily condensed like this.That makes it more difficult for beginners to know where to start.I know I who some may say is a something of a beginner would benefit alot from such a thing.I mean the randians have this sort of thing ,its high time we had it.
hopefully sometime in the future i can help with this project.
