Some of you may have read the transcribed speech of Hans Hoppe posted on Virginia Dare (some silly racialist site).
On this VDare article, Hoppe called Hayek a "right wing social democrat".
The reason for this was that Hayek was actually well loved among social democratic European leaders. It turns out that Hayek once wrote an entire manifesto on how a government should be run. Apparently, various European social democrats implemented that manifesto to the letter, and thanked him for the ideas, calling themselves Hayekians.
Hayekian social democrats have included John Cassidy and Chancellor Helmut Schmidt.
What Hoppe did was to characterize think-tank libertarians as just academics and staffers to legislators who used a free market platform to argue for their own different idea of social engineering and social democracy. They are supposedly just a scheme to get donations and financing, and get close to government elites for having stringpullers available, and the free market agenda is just an excuse for another interventionist scheme that is to the right of most social democrats.
I must say that it is one of the most radical attacks by a libertarian on libertarians, even though that happens often nonetheless.
Well, anarchists tend to do this. Their world is very black and white. You're either an anarchist or a fascist/communist. In fact, many minarchists are frequently called fascists by anarchists on a daily basis. And yet, on the other hand, Hayek did spend a lot of time at the LSE with the Fabian's. The Fabian's may or may not have influenced him. Nevertheless, this is pure speculation.
"If we wish to preserve a free society, it is essential that we recognize that the desirability of a particular object is not sufficient justification for the use of coercion."

This is a bit of a strawman. I will agree that there is little marketing, social grace or bridge building going on with the black and white crowd, but they are a minority of anarchists. They are just the loudest ones you hear from.
For example, Kinsella is a much smoother social networker than the old guard with their grudges and limited spheres of influence. Stephan is regularly crossing the divide to engage other ideas and participate in discussions.
Well, anarchists tend to do this. Their world is very black and white.
I am an anarchist. I believe Hayek was the greatest economist of the 20th century. I believe that Switzerland has a superior government than North Korea. I do not believe that minarchists are facists, nor are they socialists. I could just as easily point to minarchists that make black and white distinctions between minarchy and crazy fools (anarchists). Be a little more charitable next time. You know that talking about anarchists in that way is unfair rhetoric.

You really need to get out more Gene.
I very much agree.

You're right. I apologize.
what is a fascist/communist? you mean "or" by that / I hope? Few tihngs aggravate me more than sloppy political labels.
such as...
Esuric, Hayek was a friend with Fabians?
That is very bad company. I can understand being a friend of John Maynard Keynes. I can understand being a friend of standard social democrats and interventionists.
But a friend of Fabians? When we bring up Fabians, it goes beyond just differences in political or economic matters.
It brings up a difference on moral matters. Fabians are rotten people.
George Bernard Shaw: "I should despair if I did not know that the working class will all die presently, and that there is no need on earth why they should be replaced by people like themselves."
H. G. Wells: "There's nothing wrong in suffering, if you suffer for a purpose."
Hayek should really have known better.

Last I checked a large portion of the threads on this forum are a part of one big organized crusade against anarchists. I must somehow be missing the part where the opposite is happening. What luck. We'll have to whip all of these trawling anarchists troublemakers into shape and stem the endless tide of anti-minarchist trawl threads.
