^ i feel bad becaus i had to google her. :P bassist for the pixies right? they're pretty cool. never heard of "the breeders" but might check 'em out.
later though. right now i'm devoting the next 2 weeks to listening to evey bob dylan album from 1962 to 1970. just wanna feel how he got from here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rt7MVy6cN_Q
to here:
http://vimeo.com/6595788
i would say i've listening to 60-70% of that material already, but never in chronilogical order.
Ambition is a dream with a V8 engine - Elvis Presley
The main 4 artist I listen to are Lupe Fiasco, KiD CuDi, Charles Hamilton, and Jay Electronica.
Lupe is an Anarchist (unfortunately not the good kind).
Yeah, that's the one. Dayton for some reason has a lot of semi famous bands and more celebrities than one would expect. The Breeders are pretty cool (at least their 1st 2 albums). They had a top 40 hit that is more famous than any Pixies song called "Cannonball" that you may have heard:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qpoqzt2EHaA
but this has always been my favorite:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLKUfBLJVqE
Can't go wrong with Bob Dylan, personal favorite album of his is "Blonde on Blonde", but it's all good. What album you on?
ahh yes! cannonball! i remember that song. that is pretty good :)
I had never heard of driving on 9, but you're right that is pretty sweet.
I'm starting Freewheelin' Bob Dylan today. His first album (self-titled) was actually really short (you can listen to the whole thing in like half an hour). But I'm thinking I will have to spend a bit more time this record. It's longer, but it also has some of his better folk songs ("girl from the north country" is one of my favorite dylan songs, but i like the version on nashville skyline better, "don't think twice" is also awesome).
i've never listened to all of blonde on blonde, but i do know a lot of really good dylan songs came off that album (rainy day woman, you go your way and i'll go mine, etc). so I'm looking forward to hearing it.
Chances are this will take longer than 2 weeks to really do. :P but you gotta have goals i guess.
I think this thread needs some spontaneity!
Lady Gaga and Kanye West came up in another thread.
And I just want to say without reservation that I love both of these musicians.

"If we wish to preserve a free society, it is essential that we recognize that the desirability of a particular object is not sufficient justification for the use of coercion."
@Student, I agree that I unabashedly appreciate Kanye West, not so much with Lady Gaga. For some reason, I feel as though I realize she isn't a great musician (or singer in my opinion), but there's something about the glossy synthesizers that I've always had an affinity for. That probably comes from me liking New Order, Pet Shop Boys, and that type of stuff. So I can enjoy Lady Gaga, which is unusual for me
Built to Spill is my favorite band; I convince myself that "The Plan" is a very Hayekian song. In the same vein, I'm a big fan of Modest Mouse, as well as Man Man, Gogol Bordello, Spoon, LCD Soundsystem, The Shins, Arcade Fire, The Walkmen and Ween. I also want to throw out Mississippi Fred McDowell. I mostly ignored music growing up, so I'm still pretty uneducated. Most recently, I've been listening to Kanye's new album and Janelle Monáe's ArchAndroid.
I like a nice mix of classic rock, psychedelia, prog, art-rock, avant-garde/experimental, and world folk. The most concise way to explain would be to link to my blip.fm station: http://blip.fm/autofyrsto.
@eric
do you listen to Vnv nation? great group....

Production is 'anarchistic' - Ludwig von Mises
ArchAndroid was an awesome album. Janelle Monae is the best female rapper since Lauryn Hill.
And on LCD Soundsystem. Have you seen the Pow Pow video directed by Mtv? What do you think about the blatant masonic symbolism?
Eric,
Yah, I think I can agree with that (but you don't think gaga has a good voice?? I think its pretty good. She can really belt out the notes on bad romance). Musically, I think Kanye is way superior.
I had his latest album on an almost permanent loop in my car last month. Def his best yet imo. even better than graduation.
@Izzy, I've heard a few of their songs. I keep telling myself I'm going to get their discography someday but I forget about it. Further is a very good song.

@Student, yeah Twisted Fantasy was really really good. If I'm ranking his albums, I'll probably go with this:
1. 808s & Heartbreak (unpopular choice, but I love a lot of those songs on there)
2. Dark Twisted Fantasy
3. Graduation
4. Late Registration
5. College Dropout (to be fair though, I haven't listened to this in a long time and I've only listened to 2/3s of it)
I just saw Bach's Brandenburgs 3 and 4 live!
i really liked 808s too. i don't know why some ppl had such a prob with it. i guess some ppl just prefer ye rapping to singing.
my ranking would prob be pretty similar except i would probably move 808s down to a close third behind graduation. I liked 808s, but graduation was just over the top for me.
I'm a big fan of the Decemberists (yes they really spell it that way) and Ben Folds.
Somewhere there's a real-life, published journal article by Steven Horwitz on libertarian utopianism in Rush and other progressive rock music. That said, I try not to judge musicians based on their political views unless they're really obnoxious about it.

Oh man, March 22 is gonna be such a good day. The Strokes, TesseracT, and Protest the Hero all have new albums coming out.
Neurofunk and liquidfunk. I do like some other types of drum & bass, house (specifically electro), techno, and trance but it really depends on the track.
This is my favorite release this year.
@Blueline, I'm stoked for the Strokes . It's been 5 years too long.

Check out the links I posted 2 posts above yours. More along the tech-house side of things.
I find myself listening to these guys a lot when I'm feeling particularly anti-tyrannical.

Realized a few days ago that the Devin Townsend Project has two new albums coming out in March. SCORE.
Discovered this band while surfing YouTube last night. I'm absolutely in love with this song:

I'm constantly searching for music which has an indescribably ethereal quality that I cannot put into words but I know it when I hear it. I'm a classical music buff so I'm searching through the classical canon but I also listen to modern genres.
