Once government provides funding for psychological services, as they will have to as long as science continues to support the mind/body connection, people will have a clearer view of the world - one that is not clouded by the miseries of their personal lives. They will understand themselves better, and in turn, understand the world and other relationships better. They'll understand violence does not work, nor intimidation, and the old ways of going about things will fade into history just as chattel slavery once did.
Relationships to ourselves and to others will be redefined.
You may say government is inefficient and the market could do it better, and I'd agree. However, this is the track I think we're going on and it is one that will benefit us in the long-run. Government will see how stress and mental problems are dramatically influencing diseases and they'll come to the only conclusion that these services would save money in the long-run. If it were any other time in history, I'd agree with what you're probably thinking, "government isn't smart or efficient enough to figure that out," but in our technologically advanced era, people will see this fast and BEG for it.
I think this is one route for government to go that anarchists could secretly support.
Thoughts?
I know this is simply not what you're looking forward to hear, but as long as the state is around, there will be plenty of violence and intimidation to go around.
Regardless of what the state-subsidized science(s) may say.
It would also be an utter squandering of taxpayers funds as well.
Rothbard has a great essay on here about scientific research and development, and how it pertains to the state. I would disagree with your conclusions, and I think he would too.
they said we would have an unfair fun advantage
I actually thought about making the "snake that eats itself" as the symbol for an organization I'm starting called The Justice League (like the comic book.) I don't think government will provide funding for psychological services - it seems more likely to fund better ways to sedate people into working zombies. The government doesn't seem to care about people - it cares about power. But I agree that psychological services are what people need these days. It's becoming more and more necessary now that man has reached the point that his only predator is himself.
slugmises:Thoughts?
No. No market forces to support efficiency, all psychologists in the long run will be soulless drones that provide no help.

Thanks! Never heard of this one mentioned before, anywhere.

You appear to be unfamiliar both with the novel "Brave New World", and with the writings/work of the psychologist Thomas Szasz.

Thanks mikachusetts and onebornfree for the links, I will read them when I get a chance.
Let's not forget, the chemical compounds that will do away with the state already exist, and the reactionary state has outlawed them. They are called psychedelics.

Let me know if you do not understand why I linked to them- regards, onebornfree.

Assumption. Plenty of hippie idiots do psychedelics & smoke pot & still end up having the most passive aggressive , apathetic & cynical rationalizations for state sanctioned coercion & involuntaryism. As long as no is coercing their solipsistic universe, it's all good to them. To sum it up: "What's your problem, man, just be cool (with our collectivism)."
"Look at me, I'm quoting another user to show how wrong I think they are, out of arrogance of my own position. Wait, this is my own quote, oh shi-" ~ Nitroadict

And lots of people still get into car accidents. Doesn't mean cars aren't useful tools, as long as you can handle them. Of course, that doesn't mean everyone knows how to drive.
And I'm not talking about taking a hit, or eating a cap or two, to "see the pretty colors", I'm talking a face-melting, strapped to a rocket DMT-fueled blast into hyper-dimensional reality, or maybe a 48 hour horror filled experience with iboga, or 1000 ug liquid LSD. That would weed out the half-hearted wannabes rather quickly.

Lol. At the very least they'd be completely new people when it's all over!

Again, your assuming that every individual will somehow be forced to question fundamentals, permanently, when every individuals reacts differently post-trip wise. Sometimes a trip is just a trip.
Onebornfree, I want to clarify that when I said psychological services and mind/body connection I did not mean psychiatry and drugs as Szasz specializes in. Surely, if we went that route with government, things could get ugly fast. So now that I think of it, it's best to not even go in that direction.

Not if it is hard enough.

Things "get ugly fast" whenever, and whatever governments get involved in, [including psychology and psychiatry]
